How to Create a Cosy Winter Ready Bedroom

With winter feeling ever closer, now is the perfect time to be thinking about how to create a more cosy winter ready bedroom.

It’s at this time of year we tend to liver our lives like an animal in hibernation, and whether you’re wanting to make your own bedroom more cosy this winter, or your children room, there’s nothing nicer than retreating from the cold, dark and dreary days this season brings than getting into a nice warm bedroom and snuggling up with the wind howling at your window and the snow starting to fall.

Indeed, the feeling of “home sweet home” tends to be much more prevalent at this time of year due to the amount of time we spend indoors and the warmth and comfort we associate with this time  of year in terms of our home environment.

There’s nothing better, as a child, than being wrapped up warm looking out at the snow falling from your bedroom with a nice warming bowl of soup, going to sleep, then taking a peek through the curtains every now and then, just to check whether the snow is still falling – in the hope of missing school and going sledging.

Yet, this notion is somewhat reversed if you don’t have a cosy bedroom to be looking out at the weather. Indeed, if you have drafty windows that let all the cold air in, the last thing you have on your mind is the fun of the cold weather.

In that sense, there are certain things you need to do to ensure a winter ready bedroom – such as getting double glazed windows, as you can have the most wonderfully crafted wooden headboards to bring about a sense of luxury to your bedtime experience yet if you are left shivering due to the cold winds penetrating your fortress, it makes little difference.

In addition to the obvious home maintenance issues relating to insulation, draft stoppers and double glazing, when it comes to keeping warm at night you will want to consider a layering system for your bedsheets; as often, we can get too warm which can be just as uncomfortable as being too cold.

An electric blanket is a good way to keep warm through the night as it doesn’t use very much energy yet provides a constant close source of heat, and if you’re really fancy, today you can get electric blankets that adjust through the night depending on your own body temperature.

Another aspect of creating a cosy bedroom is that of warm, cosy, lighting.  There are options such as himalayan salt lamps will create a cosy glow in addition to providing numerous health benefits, fairy lights, or candles.

When it comes to getting into bed, there’s nothing nicer than the smell of freshly laundered sheets, though in terms of comfort a memory foam mattress topper can add an extra layer of softness to your existing bed that can make it much more cosy to get into on a cold winter’s night.
