As children grow and explore, they’re sure to become curious about weather and to notice melting snow, warming air, and other signs of the changing seasons. For a young child (preschooler) the gradual shift from one season to another can be a difficult concept to grasp. But it’s the perfect way to introduce a variety of scientific concepts while having fun along the way. We have started with intorducing the winter by

Reading the books. I’ve picked those two First Facts Seasons by DK and Winter (Seasons) by Child’s Play. Both books are brilliant introduction to seasons. They are really good for highlighting the features of a non-fiction text. Easy to read, pictures really engaged Mia and she loves to look at the bright colours.

Make Four Seasons Book. First I have made little Winter book and as we will be approaching each season I will be adding new pages. This little book is very easy to make, I’ve printed out few pictures that are  symbolizing the winter and laminated them. Simple and fun.

This Build a Snowman Felt Activity is one of my daughter’s favorite ways to play inside during the winter. We put the pieces in a ziplock bag and carry it with us in the car, or to restaurants.

Here’s what you need to make this Snowman Felt Activity:

  1. White felt
  2. Felt in varying colors
  3. Cardboard sheet
  4. Craft glue

Cut out the snowman in the white felt.

Cut scarf, hat, nose, eyes and mouth from the remaining felt.

On the cardboard sheet stick blue and white felt. Make few snowflakes using white felt and stick them on the blue felt.

So, here’s my question… Do you wanna build a snowman?

That song is stuck in your head now, isn’t it?
